The therapy process is private, confidential and client focused. The client
is the focus of attention which may or may not need help in disclosing the
presenting problem.
The role of the psychologist is to listen, paraphrase
when appropriate and demonstrate an understanding through active listening.
Therapy usually progresses in stages and requires mutual respect, honesty, and
trust. Realistic goal setting, measurable outcomes, motivation and progress
recognition pave the way. The therapist guides the way through mutual
agreement and recognition into goal completion.
